I've just recently acquired two baby pygmy dragons (5 weeks old), and have been feeding them on speckled roaches.
Houdini (one of the dragons) really eats like a pig it’s like he treats every meal as if it were his last. I've seen him eat around 10 roaches in one feeding! Scratchy (the second dragon) doesn't seem to be eating anywhere near as much. He only eats around 4 roaches each feeding and takes his time doing it (compared to how quickly Houdini eats). Scratchy seems to be shedding his skin at the moment - don't know if this has any bearings on his appetite?
Is this normal or is there something wrong with scratchy?
P.S. I try to feed both dragons separately to ensure that scratchy gets his fair share. |

The heat source is a infrared globe - should I be using a normal globe? I’ve heard that beardies like it really bright. (I’ve also got a twin fluorescent fitting in the tank - one tube uv the other tube just for light) |

You only have to worry if he refuses to eat anything. If he's eating, he will survive. I have 8 young dwarfs, and they all eat varied amounts, some go nuts as soon as you put them in, some I have never actually seen eating (keep in mind when young they often won't eat while you are watching).
I'm sure everything is fine.

Bump it up a bit when they get a bit bigger though. Make sure they have a shallow water bowl too at the cool end. I did have mine set at 45 even when young with no problems, but they were in a 4ft with plenty of room to get away from the heat.
A normal globe is better as they like to bask under it more. I use Phillips reflector spot globes, 40 or 60 w depending how close the globe is to them. I'm using a 40w, but my babies are currently in an open tub and I am using a clamp lamp on the side so I can get the lamp down low near them.

I've also brought the temperature up to 35 deg and placed a rough stone in the tank so that the beardies can rub against it and remove some of their shedding skin.
Scratchy ate 6 roaches last night! I have a feeling he might eat even more when I replace the infrared globe with a normal reflector globe. Anyway I now know that scratchy's tendency to eat less than houdini is of no real concern - so long as scratchy is eating.
Thanks |

When should i start introducing vegetables into the dragons diet?
What would be the best vegetable to start with? |

The longer you wait the more they are used to live food and the harder it will be to get them to eat their veges. Even if they won't eat them, give them a small plate of chopped veg anyway, soon they will tuck into it straight away. I feed bok choy, cucumber, zucchini, squash, peas, little bit of carrot, snow peas - not all of them all at once, sometimes just bok choy and squash. Fairly finely chopped. There are lots of veg they will eat, theres an article somewhere, just do a search on bearded dragon food.

I am currently using a Microclimate DL1ME Thermostat but would like to change to something else. There is nothing wrong with the device itself, its just that my tank is not in the sunniest position and thus the 'magic eye' turns the thermostat to night mode when its still day time. I was going to get either a Microclimate B1 Thermostat or a Microclimate DL1 Thermostat. What do ya recon? |

You don't need to replace the thermostat, there is a knob on the bottom of the ME models to adjust the sensitivity of the magic eye, you could try that, or disable the magic eye (by turning the night time drop adjuster to Zero degrees, which will stop any change in temp) and just plug the thermostat into a timer and set it to turn off at night, on in the morning.
