G'day Steph,

If your cats are inside, they wouldn't come into harms way. I don't think anyone said they would hurt a cat that was inside or locked up?

My opinions about cats transfer over to dogs, as well. It is quite easy to make a dog enclosure that keeps a dog in and wildlife out.

how do you know that they have for certain never hurt an animal ever?
I think if you let your cat in a room with a rabbit or mouse or something then it probably would try to eat it

our cat was the only reason i was potentially denied having a lizard in our house, but the cat conveniently 'disappeared' , so i got my lizard
i really didn't do it, but was glad it was gone, never liked it.

I heard this lady on Triple J.. was really pleased to hear her say that she didn't consider killing the snake because it was a natural thing and "was the wrong place at the perfect time". And that she would be keeping her second cat indoors from now on.

I love the thought of good old Aussie justice and the native getting one back on the ferals, or for this matter, the introduced.
I don't hate cats, though I despise what they do in Aus. But I will continue to put out the word to any cat owner that they as individuals have a moral obligation to the native animals of this country and keep their cats locked up. A cat avairy is the go for outside play, and kept inside the house if you want it for your need to cuddle something.
Remember .native animals are protected by law, introduced species are not, especially if they wander off private property and on to someone else's backyard.

eating cats

I was once told that cats will die with their claws out... and that this will cause internal damage to the snake. Does anyone know if this is true? I'd like to be sure before I throw my neighbours cats into the snake tank... lol , just teasing..

i can see you are not going to be very popular in the herp community with that attitude.perhaps you should open your eyes and see just how much damage cats do to our native animals.

I'm not a cat lover, and agree with how much damage the feral ones do, but I like to lay the blame on irresponsible owners, loving reptiles doesn't have to equate to hating other creatures
because of human irresponsibility.

i would say man is the biggest threat to australian wild life, destroying their natural habitat, killing them instead of calling someone out to remove it and introducing cats and dogs to australia... Cats and dogs have to be safley away from the natives, as they can get hurt and hurt in turn as is nature.....

wow this is an oldish thread

Why is it that all cat owners are in denial about the damage these horrendous creatures do to our native critters? I don't know how many times I have heard a cat owner state "my cat never hunts or kills anything" wake up to yourselves!
