QLD records

I thought i'd share my very unpleasant situation with everyone so to save some of you the hassle i've had.

over the last few years, as i bought and sold animals, i have done a real half a$$ job of keeping records, up until recently i had a real "it's only a hobby" attitude towards record keeping. then some months ago a little birdy told me that audits are quite common, and that npws can be ruthless with handing out fines.

so, in knowledge that i had a huge breed coming up this season. i thought i would get my records squeaky clean before the masses of traffic expected from hatchy sales.

before looking at how bad my records actually were, i decided i would contact npws about my current situation and was completely honest about my position.

well... did that ever land me in crap. although they showed some leanency, i was basicly told to get me records up to date, or else.

so - after looking at my paperwork, luckily it was no-where near as bad as i had thought. and i managed to get it up to date in a night. however, should it had've been as bad as i thought, i would have been in alot of curry.

after talking to some close herp friends of mine, i realised that being sloppy with your paperwork was all too common. so consider this a good reminder to get ya bums into gear.

i know, as we're all heros on the net, that there will be the odd few who wanna poke crap at this thread. but let me assure you, this practise IS all too common.

cheers

Azz

Anyone who loves herps should know that you have to keep records up to date. If you get sloppy and get an audit well, it serves you right for not doing things properly. Thats why we have a liscencing system, to do things right.

I dont think its hard to keep your records up to date if you do it often enough, but it is definitely a good idea!

Every time you send or recive an aminal, DO YOUR PAPER WORK, its that simple, there is no excuse.
By failing to do so it can very easily turn a 100% legal animal into suspected tainted fauna.

If the authorities decide to prosecute an individual for fauna book mistakes, or failure to accurately keep it up to date, you can recieve from mermory huge fines close to $7000 per offence( it could actually be more I can't remember ). If there are 4 mistakes on your page then you can times this by $7000. If any body doubts this as being the case, then take it from me as being very true as I was fined $5000 for a uncompleted entry and when I was looking at appealing the fine, found out through the relavant act that I could end up with a fine of over $100000. There was never any sinister motive for my book mistakes and incompletions, just lazyness but that did not matter. The law is clear and the penalties which can be given are massive. No more lazyness for David
