quails

this weekend i am going to try and feed my bredli some quails. I was wondering if these are practical and/or are simple to look after and most importantly breed. So if anyone with this type of experiance reply. Also is there anyone in sydney who sells quails at good prices as i have gone to a pet shop and they are charging $25 each!!!

thanks in advance, jeremy

I have quails as pets. They are very hard to breed as the mother becomes stressed easily and will reject the babies which will die very easily. Live quails are extremely fast runners and can do some damage to your reptile ( one inflicted serious injury on a diamond python owned by a friend of mine). They can also fly( kinda, they arent supposed to be able to) and can cause stress to your reptiles. I would by them pre-killed from a herp shop and would not feed them live.

Oh,and forgot to add that quails, much rather like chickens, are very disease prone and can die from stress...Mainly why I have 7 males and 1 female...

P.S Why dont you buy some plain, raw quails from the butcher?

my bredli hasnt eaten in a while so i am trying different food items and my dads freind who has had snakes for years said to try quails. I can get quails from a butcher? I have always wondered if you could tie up the legs of the bird with something so it can run away lol

i dont go shopping for that sort of food lol. Is it one piece with feathers and all cause i have heard that for problem feeders birds are the go (supposably like the feathers). Well this guy told me to either try quail or duck. Its a 2 meter snake so how big a duck am i talking here...

The smallest duck i know of would kill your snake instantly...i aslo keep them as pets. Forget about the ducks. You could probably buy the quails with the feathers if you talked to your butcher, he probably plucks them.

are you serious...why do you assume he is going to feed it live to his snake?...i reccomend a chook and snap its neck n chuck it in, or day/week/4 week old chooks n let em run around, wont have a chance to touch the bloody snake if it wants to eat em
