Question..

Hello,

I will be getting my snake in the next couple of weeks to a month and I was wondering, I have air conditioning in my room, and it's normally on anytime between 8pm straight through to around 11am. I want to know if this is going to be a problem when I get my snake, because it'll be living in my room.

Are there any suggestions that could help me out, so I can have my air con on and my snake be happy and healthy?

Thanks,

Chris

if you can set the temp on the air-con, I would set it to 20 deg, so if you set up your heating correctly you should get a good gradient.

As long as it's enclosure is well heated, it should not matter too much.

I set my air-con to pump out 16º however the average temperture of the room is between 19º - 23º mainly because it's a big room. However, over night time I have a feeling that it drops down to 17º and on rare occasions 15º.

What temp should the snakes enclosure be set to ?

Just remember that Air Cons dry out the air. You'll have to be careful with humidity levels. It may even be a good idea to get a humidifier too.

it also depends on what type of snake you are getting, if you are getting something from northern Aust. you may need more night heating than a mat. Look at the distribution of the particular snake you want, then look up the temps of that area (keep in mind snakes are good at getting out of extreme heat and cold) and try to get your enclosure to match the temps of where they are found.

I'm getting a spotted python.

My air con has 3 settings on it,

1. Cool
2. Fan
3. Dry - this takes the humidity out of the air.

I only ever have it on the "Cool" setting, Do you think that'll still cause a problem with the humidity levels?

I have my air con on at the moment, and the room is currently 23º

if you can don't keep ur snake in the air con. I hav found that it drys the snake out really bad and you have all kinds of problems when your snake is shedding.

My DP is in my lounge in close proximity to the air conditioner. My housemate is one of those people who likes to be cool and so its on quite often in the summer. I use a heat lamp and if the temp drops, the heat lamp will come on and maintain the correct temps. I don't really know much about heat mats but if you're going to have the viv in an air conditioned room I'd probably advise to have a heat lamp attached to a thermostat to regulate the temp (that said, I'm no expert). I've never had any probs with Zeph's skin being dry or any problems with him shedding either - but that's not to say that it couldn't happen.

I wasn't going to be handlying the snake while the air con was on, just that it's enclosure would be located in my room where the air con is somethimes on. Normally during the day it isn't on at all until night time.

Do you think that this is still going to cause a problem?

I think I'm going to get a wooden enclosure or maybe a click clack to start off with. I am going to get a heat mat, and I'll get a heat lamp just incase, like you said if the temp drops
