You just had to ask didn't you ? Thermostats are the spawn of the Devil :-)

You just use heating that doesnt need a thermostat, you just need to find what works for the right temperatues. IMO you get a better thermal gradient without them. Not worth the risk IMO.

Yes sdaji, on my incubators only.
ther, therm, thermo, sledgehammer prey sux big time, and IMO with most set ups for pythons are a recipe for disarster, just ask sdaji, it happened to him. The enclosures I make have a division in the middle the alows the snake to move from side to side. This enables them to seek out heat when needed or feel day, night and seasonal temp fluctuations on the cool side as it is uneffected buy the warm side and thus is always room temp. Simple.
Most sladehammer prey setups do not alow this and they end up with a gradiant of30-32 at hot end and 25 or so at cool end, WRONG. IMO not good at all, they should be able to have acsess to temps below 10 degrees if the room gets that low but as stated most set ups do not alow this and this can end up in metabolic burn out. Most if not all snakes NEED metabolic rest but most peolpe will not alow them to.

so do you have a pic of one of your enclosures?
just searched the gallery and cant find yr album.
10degrees??
i have often wondered why people keep their snakes in such a rigidly controlled habitat, mine are currently at room temp with ceramics/heat mat at night and i was about to purchase two microclimates.

so im assuming you heat one side and have nothing on the other...and if this is the case what temp gradients do you end up with? i mean, i have been led to believe that 30-32 hot end and 25 at other end is a good thing...

I dont have a thermostat for my Childrens, I have a fluro, and a heat globe up the top in one corner. She can choose if she wants to be hot or cold (as the bottom of the tank is quite cold). I have had her for about 15 years, and never had a problem with illness, shedding or feeding. I dont think you need one IMO
