my bredli has only a heatmat at the moment (only a hatchie) but no, it probably wont have one when it's older.
I mean what animal lives in a climate controlled environment in the willd? They get blisteringly hot, and freezing cold (more or less). As long as they can choose whether to be hot or cold, thats all that matters. And not cold within a raneg of 20-25 or whatever, as cold as they want (same for the hot)

Well someone asked me that before, and I just said "I dont" haha. I usually get funny looks, but I think an old python with nothing wrong with it at least shows that it works!
The breeder I bought my bredli from doesn't keep any of his with thermostats either, and all his snakes live to grand old ages and are all breeding very well and are all healthy.
Dunno, maybe I am just lucky with my snakes.

hhhmmmm, im tempted to forgo the thermo thing now, the biggest prob i have is the keeping the diamond cool, shes the odd one out but love her to bits and dont really want to sell her.
thanks for yr input nina, im sure this subject has been thrashed about already, (bit like the hybrid turnout), but its a bit difficult finding all these posts and even with the newer posts reading something interesting and then finding it again requires two cups of coffee and a packed lunch...

Everything I said though is my opinion, I have just had success with the non-thermo method, and I think it's healthier for the snake as well.

I went to a breeders house and he keeps all his Carpets & diamonds outside during daylight savings and brings them in for winter. But he keeps them with thermostats and has for the past, at least, 10 years very successfully.

thats right purplething, no heat on one side so the animal has acsess to what ever the outside temp is, as all the doors, except for high quality security doors, and windows are left open so the snake room and cold side of tanks, is subjuct to what ever the outside temp is.
Going off nina, your not just a pretty face are you.??

Have to say after trying both ways, I am actually a fan of true blues way, well works perfect for diamonds anyway, they get room temp (usually close to outside temp) at one end and i have a 40watt globe in a 4x2x2 at the other end, they spend about half and half of there time at either end assume there happy!

lol purps!
I agree blue, common sence. Hell, I know I would hate to live at a constant 25-30 degrees my whole life, plus it would be really bad for my skin lol!
