Haha surfcop, i'm assuming you went to the same bunnings as i did. They were trying to sell me lead based varnish and saying it was waterbased.

Surfcop, I used liquid nails (as suggested by MrB) when installing the track on mine with no problems. My glazier put hand grooves in the glass for an extra $5 each, so worth asking them if they'll do it.

yep - a small bead of liquid nails is the best adhesive for plastic track - it bonds very strongly (by solvent attack) to the track and you'll never move it. PVA glue is water-based, won't stick to either the track or the melamine, and will just peel off when it's dry. Try and get your glass track from a friendly glazier, I get mine from one here in Port Macquarie and it costs $13.30 for 3.5m length - top and bottom. My 5mm glass is also only $38/sqm, so shop around for both - you can be charged up to 4 times that amount by profiteering glass people. Bunnings for track - definitely not...
The vertical glass size should be measured wood-to-wood, them subtract 12mm to allow for the track and you will get a very good fit, so if the wood-to-wood distance is 550mm, take 12mm from that and get the glass cut to 538mm - perfect fit. For the horizontal measurement, if for example I'm making a cage from 16mm melamine, and the cage is 1200mm wide, I get the glass cut at 600mm, which, because it is inside the 16mm sheet at each end, gives an overlap of 32mm in the middle, and this should be quite adequate for your locks. Nightowl's suggestion of putting a length of track down each end for the glass to close into is a good one - it certainly stops them from prying the glass open with their snouts.
Make sure you shop around - there is a huge variation in what you will be charged for glass and track, and often the smaller "family" businesses are far better to deal with than the big glass retailers - you will find they will supply your needs from offcuts they have on hand anyway. A lot of glaziers spend their time working for insurance companies, so they basically charge what they like.
Jamie.

Yeah I am certainly finding that out Pythoninfinite....
Rung a few places for glass.... 610mm by 357mm... prices vary from 65 - 75 a door.....
I then quoted to one place that someone could do it for $30 a door...... They said "Hold one moment" Came back and after original qoute of $65 a door... they said yeah we will match the $30 a door price..... Hmmm Bit of mark up me thinks....
Anyone else around the South Brisbane suburbs or Northern Gold Coast Areas got a good glass Supplier...??
I do have a Number for Northern Brisbane suburbs for $22 a door, but would prefer not to travel around to much with Glass.....

Pugsly..... I was told 11mm was the amount you subtract.... Either would work... J7ust 11mm gives you that lil extra up top...but might be a bit harder to slot glass in....????

I got 2 X 5mm glass doors 950mm X 600 for $80 ($40 per sheet) with polished edges from Aussie Glass in Ashmore.
The 5mm tracks from Bunnings have a bit of paper telling you measuring instructions. I nailed the bottom runner and and glued the top. As people said they are in the aisle with the rest of the sliding door tracks.

Surfcop, try to avoid nailing the track in place, the holes are never quite centre and you'll find the glass will catch on the plastic edges.
Silicone works well, 3 years and no problems to date.
There's alot of ways to calculate the height of the glass. I go distance between top and bottom track add 9mm.
If you're not worried about the security aspect, sliding glass locks are a pain in the ***, I just use half a wooden peg wedged between the sheets of glass at the bottom. Works a treat!
Cheers

At the moment I have a 4yr old that has free rain around the house.....
So for $5-$10 cost of the locks..... And for the sanity of the missus who is scared snakes will get out (SNAKE ON A PLANE EPISODE), I figure the locks are a worthwhile investment...... Even though they may be a pain the the behind.......
