try pig pellets, pony pellets and working horse mix, half the price of rat pellets and heaps better food for breeding.

I have them. (At least it sounds like them) They're made by Young or Youngs stockfood I think. I'll chase it and get back to you.

I've been thinking about working horse mix for my rats, do they do well on that? It is a hot feed so full of goodness!

The other thing I've been looking at and tried (sample only) is a barastock chicken layer grain that has some molasses included. The rats loved it and it smelled sweet (pardon the pun)

I use the working horse mix but my rodents have gone off the barley in it so theres alot of waste.Ive just got a new horse mix sample and its alot like dog kibble the rats seem to like it but as sure as i pay $27 for 40kg they'll decide they dont like it :/
Magpie ! Barastoc is Ridley Agri Products, to the best of my knowledge they are Aus wide.

One great thing about using hot horse feed is that it is cheaper than specialised rodent feed yes?

Does this food have animal protein??? If not, what stops them eating their babies????

The horse mix that I am reffering to is in a grain form, with molasas and corn ect.Ive started adding a product called BioMare and so far they love it.The rodents pellets can be bought from most pet shops and alot of grain stores stock them as well..

I use Bio Mare too have been for the past 2 years with excellent results .That is my primary food ,i add working horse mix and fruit and vegies also as a treat [for the rodents not me as it has to be diced up ] As i breed 700 pinkies in rats and mice each week i need to feed what i consider to be the best . We worked the food out with the Queensland manager of Furneys ,a A ustralia wide stockfood company and my vet a retired lecturer of Vet Science at u.q .
This food does not contain animal protein as i feel that feeding animal protein increases the risk of babies being eaten Would be years since i have lost rats to being eaten ,mice sometimes ,maybe 10 each year . My animals are always healthy ,bright eyed and most importantly grow quickly.
