Yeah Geoff, at his last weigh in he was 1300g. His brothers weighed nearly as much.(Magpie had one, he'll know how much his weighed.)

This isn't a tall tale either. There were plenty of witnesses to attest to his size. He didn't do much in the final months of his life except eat and sleep. He'd long since stopped siring youngen's.

I didn't feed him to anything. I didn't want any of my snakes getting fatty liver disease.

Junior only got to 850g b4 he kicked the bucket and went to the big rat tub in the sky.
Going from weaner to medium is a big jump IMO, from 50g to 120g with nothing in between?

Hoppers are smaller than weaners aren't they?

Velvets should also be included in the list between pinkies and fuzzies.

Of course the weight is probably the most useful guide.

I would have guessed that hoppers and weaners would be about the same. Hoppers is a term that makes more sense for mice because when they reach that age it is like they have all suddenly developed springs.

Talking of rats and pricing one of the most sensible pricing schemes I heard of was by weight. This particular person was selling his rats at $10 per kg for everything that was fully furred.

If you are going by weight it does not matter all that much how accurate your subjective estimate of size is.

That raises an interesting question, also asked by Dobermanmick :

Is it better to feed multiple smaller prey than one large rat? I would have thought smaller prey would have less fat and would therefore be more nutritious. Any thoughts?

[edited] Damn! I should read the posts more carefully - Bugguy has already answered "yes" to that one. Sorry.
