you just have to keep the size relative phantom, a 7ft coastal is capable of taking a large prey item, and if you ask the butcher i am sure that he can arrange some smaller rabbits for you (food industry size is usally from 1.2-2.2 kg).

I did some asking around though and the general thought on the subject is that a whole rabbit (ie. offle and all) is better nutritionally for a snake then a prepared rabbit

Obviously you dont get them running wild up there.

I can go for a 20 min drive from my place(Hills area eg Arcadia, Glenorie) and set up some rabbit traps and have them all full by the next morning. They are soo many at the moment that the local community had a meeting about poisoning the buggers.

When I shoot for rabbits we check for diseases by looking at the liver for white spots or cysts and eyes for myxo. Cutting open the rabbit may be a problem when feeding them to your snake. U could always freeze them for 6weeks first.

Thats where you can get em for next to nothing in the Sydney area. Just make sure the property you are trapping on doesn't use poisons. Im sure many property owners in that area would welcome you.

cheers

Jonny

johnny rabbits travel and can pic up poisons from anywhere not just the farm you are catching them on.... also calici is detrimental to your snakes health and is hard to detect as the rabbit may be a carrier but show no signs of the virus itself.

i would advise against trapping wild rabbits (there are to many unknowns)

I'd advise people to trap the rabbits...but don't feed them to your snakes, just shoot them.
