Hi. Here is a photo of my pits. Corrugated iron walls and I welded up some mild steel and tack welded some steel mesh for the lids to keep out predators. Have a lot of hawks, magpies and foxes around here. Not a great photo, but there is 7 pits in all. The whole thing overall measures 16 feet x 16 feet. Keeping Stumpies, Easterns and Blotched. I built it in two stages as I needed them. I cut down costs by using second hand timber and corrugated iron from the local recovery yard (tip salvage yard) and the steel and mesh i used for the lids were downgrade steel as it's cheaper. A tub of chipboard screws at the local hardware shop will set you back about $12. I spent around $500 on this but not all in one go. $150-$200 would get you started. Size is up to you. There are a few places on the net to get some ideas. Maybe a google search will help with ideas, that's what i did. And when it's all done you get to furnish it how you want. Hope this helps you out.
Cheers, Cazza.

And in relation to laws on outdoor pits, there is no worries about having them in VIC. You will have to check with your state wildlife people , but I dont think you will have any dramas. You might also want to check your local library in the reptile section. There may be something on constructing pits there too. Cheers, Cazza.
