Running heat lights.

Got a query for you all. I'm running a 100w reflector globe and a 15 w heat mat in my diamond enclosure. Both on 24hrs a day to keep the heat up.

Any ideas how much this will be costing??? I have no idea how to work this out.

RE: Running heat lights.

Sorry can't help you with costs, but if the snake is over 12 months old i'd highly recommend having no night time heating.

RE: Running heat lights.

I don't know but would imagine the 100 w globe would start to rack up the $$$. I use 40w but i don't have a diamond. I guess wait and see how much your bill jumps up ( if it's a new enclosure, of course since last bill) The higher the wattage the more your thermostat will turn the light on and off, which is when it will cost more. Lower wattage=less on and off. Yeah, I don't heat at night either.

RE: Running heat lights.

One kilowatt hour is about 20 cents or so. Use use 115 watts per hour therefore 115*24/1000 hours in the day gives you 2.76 kilowatt hours per day. This means you spend about 50 cents per day on elecrical heating.

RE: Running heat lights.

To be pedantic my description is not entirely precise but about 50 cents per day is about right.

RE: Running heat lights.

Thanks Munkee. 50c a day is just within my price range.

Not a Korn fan are you Munkee?

RE: Running heat lights.

I enjoy some of Korn's songs though I find I haven't really got a type of music that i like specifically.

RE: Running heat lights.

Correction for tan - higher wattage means less time on, more off, lower means more time on, less off, to keep the heat up.

Jamie.
