you are actually spot on RR
The water python is the rainbow serpant they refer to in aboriginal dream stories, not mythology this is a different thing all together, they hold this particular species of snake sacred and you would be hard pressed to find a group of them that would view it as a food source (except the lajimanu tribe).

actually i just had a closer read that is only in arnhem land, that is just one blood group it may be different from group to group, the arnhem group is a poison cousin to the lajimanu group so i dare say they have different belief values..

And as a final note, I think my WP has recovered from her ordeal. She launched herself at dinner and took it about half a meter from the cage. And is currently chowing down her second rat.
