RE: sand

Don't use sand. Its a bacteria trap and can cause fatal digestion problems. I've given up using any substrates and just use newspaper.

RE: sand

what about for naturalistic vivariums? Is sand less of an issue for bigger snakes, eg olives?

RE: sand

Ive been euclyptus mulch for my lizards, cheap at $7 for 40kg and they love it. i feed in seprate tubs so no danger of ingestion. newspaper for the snake so far, but might consider converting it too later, since she likes to feed up on a branch.

Astroturf? Mine doesn't. Once a week I take it out, hose it down and hang it on the line. Never had any problems.

(but then, I've only been using it for six weeks)
