Howdy all,
I have been having some thoughts of using sand in one of my womas enclosures. I have heard a few people say that it can cause gut problems etc if ingested. I am not sure how accurate that claim is but I can always feed him in a seperate box.
My concern is how hard is it to keep clean? Given that they only poo once a week or so that is not really a concern but if he is weeing in then it will soak in and would surely be unhygenic. How often does it need to be replaced and can it be washed and reused?
Any suggestions/advice would be good.
Thanks,
Dave

hey there
i use sand in all my woma enclosures and most of my blackheads as well
i find as long as you use a seperate feeding dish then they will be fine remember alot of woma's in the wild naturally live on sand and as long as you keep getting all the poo out (i use a kitty litter scope so all the sand comes out and makes it very easy) and replace it every 1-2 months.
you will also get to witness your woma digging with its head which i could watch over and over again its very entertaining

i was using sand with my bredli for about a year,..it was great cos the sand clumped together so i could get all the wet/pooed on bits out.
even when doing that the sand started getting a bit smelly after 3-4 months so i'd change it.
the reason i stopped using it was cos as he got bigger grains of sand started getting stuck under his belly scales, and i figured that couldnt be a good thing so i changed him to paper.
i'd love to see the woma digging with its head,...u should post a vid!!!!!

hey like some ppl have suggested have a seperate feeding bowl away from the sand to avoid them eating sand
I have changed over to reptile tiles and it works a treat!

Just feed them in a seperate tub if you have sand.
