Lightbulb Setup For Beardies ? (Pic)

Hey Guys nearly finished my new enclosure for my 6month old Beardies. Now the question I'm hoping someone can help me out with is what heating wattage i will need for the enclosure. Also what's an ideal solution to providing UV. Should i Get a Really powerful UVB or get 2 separate lights?

The enclosure is only small 870mm wide and 420mm Deep but it will do until i can build my own... Are their any specific thermostats that actually hold the temp at idle point say hot end 32 degrees unlike the basic ones which tend to suck.

This is the Enclosure below.... It's an old wine storage cabinet

Also thanks to all who help me with regards to my question I don't want to harm my beardies

I would use 2 heat globes at one end and a screw in UV globe (get 10% globe) at the cool end.
Mount a thermostat in the dead centre of the back wall wired to the heat globes. Have the UV wired sperate and put it on a timer.
As the thermostat is in the centre, the heat wont go past it creating a cool end under the UV.
Cheers Andy.

Thanks for the reply andy just a question doesn't the uv light have to be within 8 inches of the dragon to be effective?

Someone will quote me if I'm wrong...but that's pretty much spot on. So where ever you put your UV light...make sure there's branches and somewhere to sit right underneath it so it's actually effective and not just wasting your electricity.

without tring to find my tape measure....
87cm...is about 3 ft
it looks almost square....

by making a shelf....2 tree stumps half the height of your habitat
at either end at the back of a habitat....& a secure branch on top of both
this will help with length for a while...also enabling them to climb...& get the U.V..& heat needed....* inches sound right!....
& its not electricity that you should be worried about ...it them getting M.B.D...from not enough U.V
the U.V.B & heat lamps should be place at the hot end...about 6 '' apart
it will also enable you to get better variance in temps
you are aiming for...
38-40* at head height....& 23* at the cool end,on the floor, during the day...not under 20* at night
the wood in the habitat will help keep heat at night
the vents...not the small round kitchen cupboard ones!...the rectangular..10cm long
should be low at the hot end...high at the cool end

a 60w spot from your local hardware store(not flood) will do...about $3

what substrate will you be using?

dont forget...to run the lamps on a timer...6am-on.....8pm off

Question

Atm i am thinking of using newspaper until they can be safe from eating sand !. But i might also build a floor out of the foam stuff used for aquariums just depends.... A side note with the timers how the hell do u set them up.

I have one that's apparently a 24 hour one and i have no idea how to set it from those times. Should i hook up a digital thermostat as well to make sure that they don't cook and during night the light turn on in case of it getting too cold?

Guess i am going to get the UV Fixture from bunnings and some lights as well then get the reptile uv fluro tube from a reptile store.
