The feediing he received before i bought him of the breeder was two fuzzie mice that he ate really well and digested properly the breeder told me to feed him one fuzzie but never said for how long.
Since then cookie has grown alot he is about 45cm's now and one fuzzie dosnt seem like it is enough as he eats it really fast takes bout 3mins to swallow i was wondering is this to small? Should i increase the size of his meal?
I have rat fuzzies in the freezer which i bought incorrectly i was wondering wether i should try one of them on monday im not sure! |

For that size of snake I'd certainly be looking at upping the feed size to a weaner rat. You'd be surprised at what they'll take. Getting your snake to switch to rats might be an issue though. Try the snake on one, you'll never know until you have a go.
If the snake doesn't want to take it, it won't. Simple as that |

It really seems to depend on the individual snake. You'll hear people give very different aco****s of their experiences with it. We haven't had a hassle weaning onto rats with any of our pythons ever, but I do know of many people who have. It can't hurt to try And if you have any problems with it I'm sure you'll find lots of advice on the site to help you in the process

I was told by one breeder that if it can swallow its meal in less than 5 or 10 mins, it needs a bigger one, it should take up to half an hour. To finish off the little ones you have though, I'd start to give it 2 or 3 at a time.

one thing you might want to look at aswell is feeding him at different times of the day or night, sometimes first thing of a morning or midday or even just before you go to bed.... Then an other thing that was suggested to me was to mix up the meals - I have to kkep track on the calendar - but our hatchie Bredli might get two fuzzies on a monday night then nothing for 10 days, then 1 fuzzie in the morning, then maybe one in four days time (after he's pooped)
In the wild a snake might come across a litter of mice/rats and eat all of the litter, then not eat for months - - We're trying to keep it a little natural -
Just sharing what we've been trying, and offering a different view!
Cheers Bec

Snakes in the wild are known to eat items 4 times the size of their bodies’ diameter.
A good breeder told me that a full meal should show a small bump in the stomach area. So I guess you gotta look at the size of the snakes belly and the size of the food item (imagine: in a streched out dead way).
Hope this helps.

I boosted my 15mnth NW python up to Weaner rats just recently. He took it and went straight into his hide. He had a pretty substantial lump in his gut. The next day I saw him get out and about which I was quite surprised at because of the meal. After a bit of climbing he began gagging and whipping his head around a bit. He did this for about 2 min then settled down and hid again. I couldn't imagine what I would have done if he had done this while I was handling him. I don't handle for 2 days after a feed now to avoid a bad situation. Now he takes the weaners with no problems.

We fed Hermione (Stimmy) on Saturday night, giving her two weaner mice- we weren't sure she was going to take the second one, because mostly she takes one. Then on Sunday, when I checked on her, she was 'looking' hungry...so we offered her another weaner mouse, and she took it!
I'm surprised she's eaten three- as she's not a very big snake! She's about 60cmish long, and is probably just under an inch thick (or maybe an inch- I'm not good with guesstimating-and I don't want to disturb her). Should we up her food? She eats about every fortnight. We've only had her since February.
We were wondering this question, so this thread helped - didn't have to start a new one! LOL!
Cheers!
