RE: Sick Python

The pink belly is probably nothing to worry about, the white blotches may be though. Can you describe them in more detail?

They are like a dark white stain, almost like liquid paper. He is due for a shed though, i can see it in his eyes.

He is about 5 years old and this is the first time he has been put in to hibernation.

What do you mean by hibernation - what temps has he been subject to?

the thermostat is set on 20 deg and the tank stays at a temp range of 19-25 night and day.

In my opinion that is too cold. A better method of cooling a python would be to offer no night time heating and a basking spot of 30 degrees during the day.
Are you able to post pics of the white spots? My guess would be that after the snake sheds everything will be back to normal. If they are still there after he sheds, i would take the snake to a good herp vet.

Will do, thanks Mr Bredli. I would take him to a vet but the ones where i live (Bairnsdale 4 hours east of Melbourne) wouldn't have a clue. They can't even sex a python little own help me with my problem.
Now that i think about it, he has had a little blotch before and it went away after he shed.
I'll fix that heat too.
Thankyou

No worries, however seeing that you may have a problem with your snake, i would offer it access to a constant temp of 30-32 degrees (at the basking spot) - including during the night - until you get the all clear, that is unless you are trying to breed your pythons?

The pink belly is due to excess blood supply to the skin, often caused by feeding or shedding..
