Size of food for stimsons

We have purchased an 80 centimetre stimsons python a week ago, he is approximately 3-5 years old. The previous owner stated to feed "adult" mice. I would appreciate any advice on exactly what size adult mice would be appropriate?. The snake defecated yesterday, should we wait for another week or place food in now?

Thanks Phil

I'd say 'adult' would be mice about 45 days old. Maybe a little bigger than the average pet shop mouse (these are usually about 25-30 days old).

You should have a feed day and feed the snake on that day every week, for the adult mice go down to your local pet shop and ask for frozen adult mice. you have had it for a week feed it now if you think he is settled in.

As it is an adult every 10 to 14 days would be better to feed it.
Perhaps hopper/weaner rats?

I feed mine large fuzzies to hopper rats. They grow better on rat to mice. Your python would eat this size prey without a problem.

As he is a non-breeding male, feeding him 2 small or 1 large feed every 2 weeks will be sufficient. You really don't need to feed an adult python more than every 10-14 days.

Once every 2 weeks will be just fine.

I feed my Stimson's (about 90cm) weaner rats... You could try moving him onto rats as they're marginally better nutrition wise. In summer I usually go 7 days then 14 days then 7days and so on.

Cheers

Andrew

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. One thawed out adult mouse eaten within half an hour. Obviously the snake enjoys its new home as much as my two boys enjoy him. Good luck to all.

Thanks
Phil
