skin tear in snake

hello everyone.

just wondering if someone would share a bit of expertise on a problem i have with a juvie female diamond of mine. she rescently tore a section of skin just below her head. it is maybe 8mm. no bleeding though you can see a little flesh when you look closely. cant talk to my local repti vet till monday though am currently seeking anothers advice, just wondering if any have had this happen before, should she not be fed till her next shed, i d hate to possible seperate the skin more, and will this scar when her next skin comes through. appreciate the advice as am very embarassed that this has happened.

i probably wouldn't feed it for a while until a vet has viewed it, but i have heard that diluted betadine gently dabbed on the wound wouldn't be all that bad for it, will help dry it out and help prevent infection.

as best i can figuire she got caught on some electrical tape that was around the top of her enclosure and in pulling herself off has seperated the skin. obviously the tape is gone now but as stated before most embarrased about the whole affair

I used a product called "Golden Seal" available from Health Shops, it worked wonders on my water python last year when he had a gash on his neck. The wound didnt heal by itself but as soon as I used golden seal it vanished over night.

How often do you feed your snake? Skin splitting/tearing can be a symptom of malnutrition (Not saying you neglect your snake) although I have only read about it and haven't actually seen it happen. The malnutrition causes thin skin which tears easily. It was most likely the tape though, I am just passing on information that might be handy
