They do climb if they have the opportunity, general considered minimum for 1 adult coastal is 4ftx2ftx2ft. thats 4 long 2 high 2 deep . you can go higher and provide branches, they will use them, but gradient is important from one side to the other or bottom to top. side/to side gradient is easier, when you consider humidity. a taller enclosure means you have to sometimes have a shelf up high (closer the heat) for water bowl to acheive the humidity.

ok new question - what sort of cage do coastal/ diamond cross like - because diamonds like to climb so what would a good size be. i am thinking of building a cage - 4ft high x 18inch deep and 33 inches wide.

Is that for an adult or yearling? For an adult i would go maybe 3 1/2 ft wide 2ft deep and 3ft high.
Regards Alex

As it is for an ADULT Coastal the minimum height, IMHO, should be 3 foot, at least 4, preferably6, foot long and a minimum of 2 foot deep. Mustang once told me this and I believed him.
