Snake display Maroubra???

Gday guys and gals,
Apparently there is a snake show down at maroubra way sometimes. Im not sure of any more details so if someone could be nice enough to give me some details on these shows that would be fantabulous. I just want to know where and when the shows are.
Cheers, Alan.

Hi all,

The La Perouse Snake Show has been running for almost 100 years at the end of the La Perouse Loop (opposite the bus stop). The late George Cann Sr was followed by his sons; George Cann Jr (who sadly died a few years ago) and 1956 Olympic athlete John Cann.

John Cann (of turtle fame) still runs the snake show from 1pm to 5pm each Sunday afternoon, and I thoroughly recommend that newbies get down to see the show (it's free, although John passes the hat around after each 30 minute talk). You'll learn more in an hour listening to John than you will in a year hanging around internet forums.

Cheers

Dave

Great advice Dave.
I reckon herp clubs are great places to learn too. You can get advice in person and actually see who is giving you the advice. The internet is a great source of information but it has it's limitations.

Craig,

I believe John actually came 4th in the Decathlon.. He was also a fairly good boxer and all round sportsman.

His recent book on Australian Turtles is argueably the best Herp book written in Australia.

His book, 'Snakes Alive! Snake Experts & Antidote Sellers of Australia' is a really good read and gives lots of historical accounts of keeping, displaying and catching snakes by Carnival type people from the turn of the century to the 60's.

I went to see the show today and it was awesome. He really knows his stuff and he works the crowd really well. He sells his books there (snakes alive) for $25. If i had the money today i would have bought one. I HIGHLY recommend the show for anyone in sydney or even people that are just visiting sydney.
Cheers, Alan.
