(i) I jsut picked up my male carpet and noticed a few lumps on him, five to be exact. They weren't there a day ago and I'm very curious to know what they are. Also very worried...just in case!!!
The lump is primarily on the lateral parts of the snake and are soft to touch. When you depress them with your finger they pop straight back up again, almost as if there is fluid in them. When I push on them firmly, the snake seems to mind quite a bit. He is very good with touch and it seems that these lumps may cause him pain.
It doesn't seem to be mites as I treated my snakes for mites last year in October. I checked underneathe the scales and can't seem to find any mite like structures. Mites was my first impression but no evidence of them, not even the water bowl.
10 minute break
Believe it or not, I just went to show my brother and we can't seem to find any of the lumps. I'm going the post the thread anyhow cause you never know what will happen in the next few days, they may come up again.
Picture of is the lump. Best picture I can get so far. The lump is on the right hand side.
(ii) The second issue I have is my snakes lower part of his body, especially from his cloaca to the tip of his tail, is very limp and not as "firm" and rigid" as it use to be. His tail use to be very firm to touch and almost angled up towards the roof all the time. Now there seems to be no muscle tone in the lower part of his body. If the lower part of his body was not supported he would often wrap around your hand if you put it there, now he couldn't care less.
Any advice would be great....I am getting concerned the more I think about it as I've never had any issues with my snakes.
Thanks,

Definitely get a faecal examination done by a vet. |

I had a pair of diamonds last year that showed similar bumps forming along their backs, started small like the ones you described in your animal, eventually gotten worst (ie bunps became larger and fluid filled), the lumps would pop during their shed then rise back up again. It took about 4-5 sheds for it too clear up, no idea what actaully caused it. Threated the animals with a general puppy worming solution supplied by my vet.
Have you heard back from the vet yet ?

Loss of muscle tone and control of the tail can be a sign of an acute onset of a major issue, or an ongoing problem which may be getting chronic. There is not much point in being concerned and not doing anything about it, and you will not get anything conclusive online. |
