Carpetsnake, you didnt do something stupid like get impatient and decide to peel the skin off yourself?? No snake should ever be sticky/oily after a shed. They will look oily, but should be dry to touch. I think the new skin has come off with the old, and that is not good!! Snakes have died from premature shedding.

Lucky you took the cautious option and took her to the vet!

Here's what it means if a human has that condition ...

Main Entry: sep·ti·ce·mia
Variant: or chiefly British sep·ti·cae·mia /"sep-t&-'sE-mE-&/
Function: noun
: invasion of the bloodstream by virulent microorganisms from a focus of infection that is accompanied by chills, fever, and prostration and often by the formation of secondary abscesses in various organs called also blood poisoning

...Weird.. I dunno why septacemia would affect the skin? (Or is it effect? I never know..) Anyway.. I dunno much about the histology of reptile skin, but usually the epidermis (which I assume is the scales and their membraney thing) isn't directly supplied by blood... Nutrients diffuse from capillaries under th epidermis.. So it's odd septacemia (blood poisonng) affected the skin..
