I am the very proud best mate of Alex, the carpet python.... with whom I spend some time with every day, depending on his mood. Some days he is rearing to get out of the cage, and others he gives me that "let me sleep" look.....
Alex is about to migrate to a large cage, for which I have spent a quiet fortune on.... its a wide large cupboard with glass front, its getting tiled in slate, and thanks to an article found here... is now getting some lovely rocks made for the cage to go with the waterfall, and the play pen with bamboo and bendy thick twine.... its taking some time and I will show photos when its finished..... but you get the point.....
Now, Alex is a sociable snake, he loves other snakes, is not particularly worried by what breed they may be.... so of course I am thinking... this is a really big cage! Either I get another python different sub species but same sex for him to play with, or I get him a young girl snake of the same... And of course in the little cage, my house mate has gone and got herself a reptile license and she is going to get one or two little childreni....
so questions...
1. How many snakes is too much?
2. How do you find time to play with all the snakes if you have plenty of them?
3. Why can't I stop at one snake and rather than now ogling jungles and every pretty darlin' that catches my eye, and trying to justify having them?
4. How did it happen so quickly that once I looked at small furry animals as cute, now I see them as food?
5. When Alex so proudly gobbles his food and I look on with fascination, meanwhile my friends look at ME in horror... when did I stop relating to where they were coming from?
6. When trying to get along with mothers who can only talk about babies and children, did I start joining in by talking about Alex, or suggesting a bearded dragon for their kids as a preferable pet to a cat....
7. And why do men suggest pole dancing to me now???

Kali.
Men are objects too, hence the pole dancing. Plus learning to do massage is so passé.

I am only just starting out. ave just acquired my first pet python
So I'll have a go at answering your questions with my opinion..
1. Everybody would love to be unlimited but when you don't have the time to look after them properly, you know you have too many.
2. keep numbers to a limit where you do have the time to handle them all. But keeping them healthy is most important.
3. I couldn't beleive myself looking for one pet snake, now my hubby is building me my second enclosure. Its an obsession with a relatively low maintenance pet.
4 & 5. Dunno about these 2 questions. I love ALL animals & not prejudice against one or another. But I could never watch any animal kill another. Any snakes I buy will have to be established with feeding on pre-killed.
6. its great to have a hobby but you still gotta have respect for others.
7. Men will always be men. Our snakes and their snakes are two different animals.
Cheers
Kathy

Kali7, quite frankly, I have no idea what people with just one snake do when their python is digesting/shedding/sleeping/grumpy. What on earth do they play with then?
It's little wonder we can't stop at one.
Men don't ask me about pole dancing. But I look like such a Pollyanna  . I always get..."you don't LOOK like a snake breeder!"
