| | | Spotted python skin problem G'Day.
I would like some constructive advice from any experienced reptile keepers regarding following problem.
This evening after feeding one of my young (5 months) spotted pythons I noticed what looks very much like a burn on his belly. About a third of the way up from his vent there is a small patch of slightly swollen, dry and reddish scales. It is living in a plastic tub with a heat pad controlled by a B2. I don't think that it is a burn because there is absolutely no heat damage to the plastic bottom of the enclosure, however it does look like one.
Is anyone aware of any fungal diseases etc that could cause such a reaction?
Can anyone shed any light on the matter?
Any advice on how to treat the animal?
Thanks,
Ed. |

| | | | Thanks.
The marks on my python cover a smaller area and are a slightly darker red. However the problem on that thread does sound very similar. |

I had a look for the fotos but i can only find major cases.
I have been told that high humidity is a contributing factor for scale rot.
What is the humidity like in your enclosure??
It might not be but it could be something to think about.
Cheers

| | | | Yeah. I'm all over the humidity factor just in case it is fungal or bacterial. I have switched to plain newspaper as substrate and changed to a smaller water bowl for now. Thanks.
Does anyone else have any advice? |

Good idea to look at contributing factors and correcting them BUT the only way to now for sure is to seek professional advice.
Good luck and keep us updated!
Cheers,
Mell
