Ahh, but in the long run the stephens will be less expensive, and the snakes are less likely to cause you back trouble.

The fella we visited last weekend had a Stephens banded. It was in it's hide box and came out onto a rock before we left. Pretty sure STP got photos.
It had a broad head and definite markings, probably not very old, about 25 cms long.
Gorgeous. |

| | | Stephensi are a handful to handle. Only handled them about 5 times in total. But each time I had to use two hooks so they couldnt swing themselves up onto my hand! and you always have to drop at least one of the bloody hooks when you handle them because they always try and climb to your hand!!
Beautiful snakes though. I have seen only one in the wild and completely by chance, it had no scars or external parasites what so ever.. was very tempted to take it home |

I have had a couple of Pale Headed Snakes in the past, pretty much the same thing. Its belived by some that stephens bandeds and pale headed snakes intergrade where the ranges overlap, leading to the extent, or lack thereof banding. They are uncommon in captivity, just like most of our small elapids, there is no mistery to that. They fetch a fair price when for sale, ive seen them up around $350-$400 each for adults. They are pretty highly sort after, and you would have no problems selling offspring at all... I would snap them up if you have the opportunity.
