If there is anyone in Sydney who would like to show off their collection I would love to se them.

The best way to learn is from other peoples experience.

I'm in Bondi but don't mind driving.

On the whole being robbed thing any way to help get your snakes back ( microchips etc ). Other than radio transmitters i am unsure. I realise it would be near on impossible but we have 10 + bhps and are are trying to think how to deter any theft

Womas4me,

There is no way on earth you can quarentee against theft. If someone wants you collection bad enough, they will get it. You just have to make it as hard as you can to ensure that the theft will not be easy.

As for microchips, what a waste of time. These are easily removed. A friend of mine was robbed last year. Several of the stolen snakes were chiped, but unless you find the theif, they are useless.

On another note, how on earth did you get that many BHP,s that quickly in WA. I would have thought with the new licencing system only starting last year, that there would not have been that many available to the keepers yet

Womas,
These are the sort of things I have thought of, most of which I am sure you have to, I haven't got anything like the animals you have, but it pays to be paranoid sometimes, and I am!

1.Microchips
2.Detailed photo's of the snakes, markings etc.. on some they can be as good as finger prints, particularly if they have any imperfections, make a note of everything.
3.Use a PO box number!
4.Give out mobile numbers instead of home no.(So they can't phone to make sure you are in or out!
5.Get a couple of big dogs, the bigger and uglier the better, I have a few mean buggers!
6. Good PIR alarms, good ones can be rigged to dial a phone number or mobile to let you know your house is being robbed!
7. Spread your viv's around between different rooms in the house if practical(Don't put all your egg's or snakes in one basket!)
8.Locks on glass doors, make sure glass can't be easily lifted out.
9. Tell your neighbors to give you a ring if they see anyone suspicious near your property(Depends if you trust your neighbors! LOL!)
10. Internal deadlocks on doors and good window locks(Obvious things!)
11. Only let trusted friends near your collection, or have two rooms, one for the stuff you want people to see, and one for your high value stuff!
12.Work from home like me, your always at home with your trusted 12 gauge, no one comes in! LOL! Just kidding a magnum's more my cuppa tea!
13.Barbed wire and machine gun towers are optional, but prefered! LOL!

Most of the above I have been doing, some I may have to implement or enquire more about, been looking in the yellow pages for 'machine gun towers', just can't find any! LOL!

Hope it gives you some more idea's, it's sad that you have to take these sort of precautions, but they are necessary in my personal opinion.

Thats what I said. Make it difficult for the thieves. The Machine guns should not be optional, but a licencing requirement

South of hedland. Ackie there is very little CB pythons in WA and as we cannot import pythons the stck has to come from the wild initially.

So I take it yours are the Black & White variety. What is the biggest you have collected so far???

I was the first to breed this variety many years ago. I still have the male who is just over 6 foot. The female was just over 6.5 feet. They do not appear to grow anywhere as big as their eastern cousins.

We only have one true B&W and one slightly darker. The rest are all coffee/yellow coloured with strong dark bands. The biggest we found is 2m, found recently. Wish I had a video camera as Jim did the 'Steve Irwin' waltz with that one. Not a happy camper- it even bit itself trying to get him. A few days later and it's now the biggest sook who likes being handled and hardly hisses! We are attempting to breed this year but don't have any false hopes that will be successful as it's their first year in captivity.

Thanks Neil. Looking at the big dog option at the moment. Were going to get a pup but have decided they aren't fierce enough.

Womas4me,

Have you had any luck with finding Womas yet. I heard they have really been moving since the cyclone.
