Has anyone used this product before? it is a pretty interesting alternative food. I e-mailed the company because I can not find this item anywhere they replyed that they stopped making it for awhile but should be back on the market this summer. So I might try that out on the snake when it is back on the market. http://www.t-rexproducts.com/Dynamic...70201&series=1 |

i think Australian reptile park feeds snake sausage which is great when youve got 100s of animals. why bither when chiken drumsticks are so easily obtainable.

| I used to use John's recipe and make my own sausages, was pretty time consuming and could get very messy. On the other hand it was a very cheap way of sustaining animals when rats were unavailable.

I was wondering is there a certain reason why a snake eats bones? there are no bones in these. I always thought they needed the bones for some digestion reason

Bones are high in calcium for a start and snakes benefit from digesting them(parts of, or smaller bones), I'm yet to read the article above. The rabbit sausages I've seen for snake food are literally an entire rabbit - blended- and stuffed into a membrane, hair, bones, everything. They seem to be pretty good, and I've seen snakes take them no worries. The big thing is, you definately don't want them to burst! It's mess city! |

I wonder if you could just do something similar with chicken mince....I could get chicken necks cheap as (I have a supplier), and make some of my own.
Only problem is the bones being crushed into small peices- I'd worry they would hurt the snake- as they could shard and be spikey little nasties.
I could probably find a rabbit supplier - but they'd have to have been processed. I couldn't mince one whole- besides the mess it would make, it creeps me out!
I have a sausage machine attachment that goes on my mincer- so it wouldn't be hard to do I don't think.
They probably couldn't be given as a sole diet, but would be okay as part of one. And if they're made by me, at least I know whats going into them!
Thoughts anyone?
