Taming methods

I have a 10 month old chidreni which i am currently trying to tame up as she is very grumpy.
I am using the snake hook to get her out and then handling her for about 5 mins everyday ( exept for a couple of days after she has fed).
I was just wondering what method you guys think works best and why?

Cheers Luke.

I use a bull whip and a chair  Seriously tho, I prefer less frequent (every 3 - 4 days) but longer sessions (15 min), and never put hem back immediately after a strike.

Once the snake find out that handling is not danger, it will come down.

thus not re-enforcing bad behavior. 15 min sessions every 3-4 days. ok. what if your in my sitch and you have a bredli that hasn't been handled alot and you just got him. how long should his first session be?(first handling session is next thursday)

thanks this is all very interesting info,

andrew

Loose the snake hook for starters makes sure your hands are clean and smell like you not dog cat mouse rat etc, the bite is more likley to be a strike and if it is a bite no worse than a mozzie. Apaper cut hurts more.
Do not show fear this gives off a pheremone that will be picked up,by your snakes jacobson organ.
Be relaxed in a quiet enviroment when handling your animal.

Dont hesitate or get nevous as they pick up on it and causes them to react accordingly ,it may also realise it has one over you and it becomes habit to react this way every time you go to handle it.

I believe an earlier post already said this far more eloquently. Or is your herp specialty stating the bleeding obvious?

With one of my snakes that likes to bite I take her out with the stick she is on and walk my hands in closer and closer until she feels my skin. By this time she is in crawling mode and i can let her move off the stick and into my hands. Pretty brave?

At least he tried to help out and answered the asked question..

What was the point of your post ?

Anyway, idiots aside...

The best way that I found to tame them (not that im an expert with only 2, but its worked for me)

Get the snake out 2 or 3 times a day for about 5-10mins max.. and just hold them, let them become used to it and wait for them to start moving around by themselves...

Then after a day or two start gently and slowly swapping them from hand to hand etc.. then start doing what you want, cause after 3 to 4 days both of mine calmed down so mauch that you could almost do a rope skip with them

Just dont give up ! its well worth the effort.

Dont be scared if it tried to bite you, as it doesnt really hurt.. and as other have said, dont put them down right after they snap.. or they learn from it

Cheers, hope it helps !

Edit:
And I always use a hook to get them out as well..

Hey Slackra, we've a couple of bredli from the same bloodlines as you. I highly recomend using a small snake hook (ours is home made), when removing the snake from the enclosure - they don't seem to get as great a shock from the hook touching them as they do your warm hands. After you're somewhere comfortable take him off the hook and just handle him for a little while - like 5 mins. When he is use to that increase the time a little and so on. the only time I am able to remove the bredli from the enclosure without getting struck at is if I put my whole hand high above the snake and slowly bring down over him untill I can pick him'her up. Having said all that, the only time our bredlis' is handled is during cleaning (5 - 10 min) and after shed(bout 5 min) to make sure they've had a clean shed.
