Temp question

Hey,

i was wondering whats the ideal temps for an A.stimsoni?

i have it set to 32 and the cool end around 5 or 6 below that.

another question is it better to have the thermostat to get to a max of say 32/33 and stay there for a shorter time or have it get to 36 or so (as the peak and cool down from there, i wouldnt let it get higher) and have it at around 32 for longer?

i can measure accurately as i have an expensive laser thermometer so my temps are ground temps and not air, they are what my temp gun tells me and not the thermostat.

The temp setting for the thermostat depends completely on where the thermostat/probe is situated in the cage.

The temp at the basking spot should be about 32/33, and the cool end should be 25 degrees or preferably (if possible) lower.

I agree with MrBredli.
I keep my stimmies temps at 30-32c (warm end) 24-26c (cool end).

yeah but how would you recommend i keep it there using a thermostat, have it peak for a few minutes higher at like 36 and stay at 32 for longer or have it peak at 32 and have it stay cooler than that for longer?

sounds like your bulb is to big..
and when you are setting it you are reading the direct heat from the bulb
and that can be very confusing are you using a crystal thermo to set it

its only a little one so its in a click clack with a heat matt under half. im using a microclimate ministat 100.

i think im getting misunderstood here, i can get the temperatures fine. but which scenario would be best fitting...

1) getting the thermostat to peak the temp at 36 or a bit less which means it will stay around the 32 degree mark for longer but still has s brief period where its 36/35/34 degrees.

or

2) have the peak temperature as 32 and have it cool down from there again which means the avergae temp will be closer to 30 or so.

another way of asking is "will temps of 36 for a short period of time harm the animal in any way?" (and if so i wont do it)

Personally i would get it to peak at 34 (in the middle of your 2 scenarios) therefore giving you an average temp of 30 - 32?
