This is common with snakes that coil around their globes, which reminds me:
DO put a wire cage around any globes within an enclosure.
DO see a qualified electrician when wiring up an enclosure.
DO use a thermostat or similar device to control heating.
DO use a ceramic fitting compatable for ceramic heat globes.
DO seal any gaps within the enclosure.
DONT fall for gimmicks or be talked into buying reptile related products that are expensive and worthless( bearded dragon pellets, shed ease, skink scent stimulants, UV tubes/globes that dont produce the correct amount of UV etc).

Sounds stupid and obvious, but what would happen if you lost one of your snakes and your kid or a neihbours kid finds an elapid in the garden and does you a favour by catching your lost snake? You get a dead little kiddy.

My bredli hatchie is in a large tank, and has had no problems, because there are lots of fake plants to hide in, and lots of fake caves to hide under.

| | Subscriber | | | | | i been using hotrocks for 4 years and haven't had a problem, but i do keep testing them for temps and hot spots,
do use paper even if it doesn't look nice as it's cheap and won't hurt your snake,
don't hold rat above snakes head and think it will get the rat and not your hand,
don't take everything to heart,
don't go to far or good posts will be deleted,
do have your opinions but don't push them onto other people,
and the most important thing is remember that everybody has their own ways to do things but it doesn't make people who do things different wrong..........
cheers,
steve...........

| Good point
I think unfortunately there will only be a couple of definite Do's and Don't on this thread, the rest is just opinions.

DO be aware of environment when handling snakes (too many people around, the cat's just jumped up onto your lap etc) to avoid freak-outs.
DON'T force your python onto people who are afraid of snakes (ie. respect other people's phobias).
And finally...
DON'T forget your python is climbingin your hair whilst you are playing the X-Box & then freak out the whole house-hold in an attempt to locate the critter! ('Zar was still in Stu's hair after all...No harm was done. )

DON'T let your dad leave the door open on your python house to let some 'air' in! (luckily it was found in the neighbours garden across the street!)

It was a 3m carpet python, and we had been looking all day for it (in a suburb where everyone has a massive, very bushy garden!), and we were just walking up the road when it was getting dark, and happened to flash the torch across some lawn, and there is was!!! My Main worry was that some idiot brandishing a shovel would found it before I did!
