Just a quick question, wondering if i got one of these thermostats from the herp shop
Can i run two enclosures of the one thermostat? Like plug a double adapter into the thermo and run two light heat sources of the one.
Soz bout the noob question |

As long as they are under 600w total, it can be done.
Keep in mind, if the heat globe blows that the thermostat is getting its temps from, then the other enclosure can quite easily overheat (as to get the heat up the thermostat would then be running the heat at full power)

I was actually wondering the same thing earlier on today if it were possible.. So I hooked them up and then noticed that the IR bulb I had, it had died and wasn't working.. I don't know if it was from having both hooked up together, but the heat emitter was working fine..
I'll try again later on when I get a heat emitter.. For another experiment lol

Were you using a proportional or dimming stat chris?

I think it's a pulse thermostat.. Makes a click noise each time it turns the heat source on or off.

A pulse proportional stat will blow a light globe connected to it. They can only be used with non-light emitting heat sources such as ceramic heat emitters & heat cords/pads.

Cool, cheers for that. Another question, are the switching thermostats any good for light bulbs? On the herp shop it says it can be used with them, but would the on and off turning affect the life of the lightbulb at all? thinking it would

As Mr B said the switching one, also called a pulse proportional, turns the power on and off. Thus any incandecant conected to one of these will have the logevity of a set of firestones at eastern creek.
Thermostats to use with bulbs are dimming thermostats. These work off a resistor so that the power output to the heating device is decreased unti lthe desired temperature reached and therefore increased on the other side to rewarm. This doesnt cause the rapid expantion and contraction of the filament in the bulb which the pulse thermostat does and thus increases the life greatly
Hope that helps

How can you say that the t/stat in the pic is pulse proportional when a quick look at the pic supplied clearly shows that it's a DIMMING t/stat.

Hello,
If you need help in regulating the temps in the tank you can also use a rheastat too they work really well too.
