Thermostats

Probably a pretty stupid question but can you use 1 probe thermostat to control multiple cages? Brcause just looking at the prices if you had to but 1 fo every cage.....that a lot of money.

no you cant mate you need one for each cage because the probe has to be inside the cage to pick up on the heat and switch the heating device on and off.

Ether,
Personally I use probe thermostat's to control several viv's, as long as they are of the same size and in the same location as each other, ie. 4 viv's the same size in a row along the floor with the same heat source(wattage) in each viv.
You will always get slight variation on temps, say between the two viv's in the middle if the probe was placed in a end viv, but this hasn't been a problem for me when keeping and breeding pythons.
I have used the probe thermostats for over a decade now, and highly recommend them.

Neil

Ether, the thermofilm probe thermostat is rated way over 2000watts, so yes they can be used to do more than 1 cage.

There are three ways you can do it.
1) make sure all your cages are exactly the same size and light bulbs. Plug each cage into a power board and plug the power board into the thermostat. Place probe in one cage. Note well. This way WILL ONLY WORK if cages are on the same level.

2) Cages again are roughly the same size, but stacked on top of each other. This way you have a large watt bulb in the bottom cage, and make them smaller as you go up.

3) If you have different size cages you want to use, if you balance them by changing the light bulbs so they have roughly the same temperature , again plug them into the power board and the board to the themostats.

I currently am using method 1 and 2 with no problems.

these setups do come with a shatload of experience though ether so i would suggest having a play around with them and get all the temps right before involving your reps in the setup, better to err on the side of caution

It'snot hard to do, i'm currently control up to 6 enclosures off one probe stat, mainly around 4.
