just a little warning to anyone that likes to use natural substrate for their pets
i often go to the local park to grab a colection of gum leaves, bark etc for my BHP that seems to apreciate something to slide under. i always put it in a container, spray with top of decent and leave it there for about 1/2 hr before placing it in the cage.
i thought that would be a fairly safe practice but i found two ticks, (though only small), on
my little girl yesterday. they may have been sprayed and dying but they still managed to latch on to my snake and cause her the discomfort of me removing them. perhaps this is
a practice i should cease. anyone had simillar probs??

You are best to leave it several hours before placing in the viv, however I would spray, then leave a week, spray again, then wait another week and spray again just to be sure. Obviously collect a larger QTY and do it all at once so you have a good supply.

I've never had the problem with my herps because I only give them paper or sand (or BC but I've stopped using that and I only tried the bought bush stuff once) but I went camping with my mate once at Berowra Waters near Hornsby and I saw 3 ticks in one day, two were on my mate!!! KILL 'EM ALL!!!!!!!!!
