possibly organise a payment plan?

Most people could spare $10 a week for a really good enclosure....

and I am sure they would keep in touch as its a great thing your doing

Can i ask if your serious about this and you make your own enclosures for free ....why are you swapping a supercharger for an enclosure ?
Could you not just made your own "free" enclosure ?

I think you are very kind in what you want to do, but a suitable plasitc tub will cost from $5-30 depending on the required size, if someone cant afford that they shouldnt have any animals in their care.

I think it is a great idea kullafull, a payment plan for the enclosure. Mine cost $2000 and I saved for a month to get it while it was being built, for those who cannot afford enclosures to know they could pay one off would be fantastic for them.
I think you should charge at least $100 though as it is your time and even though the wood is free, you still have nails/glue/glass or whatever to pay out of your own pocket.

Why not even give snakes away and the food to feed them to.

realistically.
if you cant afford the enclosure
you cant afford the animal.

If you really want to give them away why not donate some to wildlife organisations and show us the photos of you doing this please.

If they can only afford the snake but not the cage and food how are they going to feed it, what if they gota go to the vets etc.
pretty dumb idea.

Ok lets see how genuine you are SOFAR ANNUAL FROG AND REPTILE EXPO Sunday 25th March 2007 will see you there with your free enclosures and I will bring my camera

i think kullafullsnake is getting a bit ahead of himself. yes its exciting to get into reptiles, but mate your just starting out. alot of your posts have made this pretty obvious.
if you havent even built your own enclosure yet, how are you going to go about the (so its seeming like) high demands of your freebies. and your still researching, maybe wait to offer free cages when you have the design perfected.
just calm down, ive seen you offering prizes, cash, cages and youve been a member for all of 2 days! how about you use this forum as a place to get knowledge, and share knowledge when you have some. people arent looking for handouts, and its almost insulting to those people who are trying to do things properly and pay for their animals.

I am with Leigh and Auzlizardking on this one.

Seriously, if you have the time and the money, and want to do good, then contact your local wildlife rehab group and ask what you can do for them. No doubt they could do with some new enclosures and maybe the odd manhour to help clean them too.

You will get hands on reptile experience, learn which cage designs work and which don't and best of all, make a heap of new friends while you are doing it.

i can see where your coming from kulla, as i have a texas heart too, but wrasse and others are right, as a wildlife carer, we are always short on cages as are many others in the field. doing reptile rescue rehab and release with a wildlife organization that isn't government funded, we are always looking for big hearted people with other skills such as yours.
i disagree with the thoughts of some, and i tend to keep more than half of my collection in plastic blanket boxes from the cheep shop as they are cheep and very easy to keep perfectly clean and germ free, unlike wood or chip that can absorb urates and breed bacteriuria that is harmful to snakes in high concentrations.
i really love your enthusiasm, but my advice would be to donate your skills to people who really need it, that is the wildlife carers that work with injured native wildlife. we fund ourselves and do wonderful work on a shoestring and still manage captive collections aswell.
people on here don't need free enclosures, blanket boxes are perfect, and if you want your animals on display in glass fronts, then that is also possible on a budget. i do agree, that if your determined to do it for herpers, you at least charge the fee of your time, even in swaps for animals, but i think your heart felt entthusiam could be put to better use with those who need it the most, the carers in the field trying to save natives from decimation while their habitat is destroyed to build yet another multiplex.
