Question Top v Side access!!!!

I am in the process of building my girl a new home and I have come across a colosial problem!

What is better, accessing your python fron the top or via sliding doors on the front or side?

Please tell me your thoughts and opinions?

i have my spotted in a sliding glass enclosure. i prefer this method coz i believe its less intimidating for a snake but on the same note...... my spotty did wedge herself between the sliding glass when she was smaller

I reckon sliding glass front, that's my preferred option over top opening.
For mine it makes for easier access, especially cleaning also if you want to expand your collection you can place another enclosure on top of it.

It doesnt matter with pythons, front opening allows you to stack things ontop so that is an advantage. I prefer top opening cages for fast reptiles such as goannas but pythons are way to slow to be a problem with front opening doors.

hey there

from my experiance both have there pro's and con

top access: no need to worry about substrate getting into the glass channels and also there is no worry about small snakes slipping through the gap between the glass and or wedging themselves in there i also like the fact that come feeding time you are higher when dangling prey instead of at the same level as the snake. I have also found its alot harder to put water bowls back in without spilling them as mine are abit higher but you do get more heat escaping when you open the lid than you do with front opening.

front opening: i have had snakes escape between the glass and sometimes they wedge themselves between it and it always takes abit of prodding to get them off so you can open the enclosure. I am always getting substrate in the channels and also find some of my enclosures that are stacked the bottom ones are hard to remove the glass due to weight on top. But less heat is lost when opening always easy to access and easier inho when removing snakes and putting back in again.

hope that helps

I have a top opening enclosure for my MD, the only issue is when my wife want to get him out and she needs to get on a chair.

I think access is the only real difference , top opening make be harder to get into and clean if you have a decent sized cage ...

I always use and make front opening ..

l have both and appart from the stacking thing [ nothing looks as good as 4 x matching 4 footers stacked ] , they are both good . With the top loaders you can slide the glass up and out for cleaning . l suggest lots of each , then you get to fill them .
