It's an interesting idea...
...the only problems I see are that you will not be able to replicate a basking site, as in light AND heat (although this may not be an issue at all)...
...also, no night time visibility if you wish to see your animals...
...the big benefit I can see is MUCH cheaper costs associated with running the enclosures...

You would need some sort of day/night cycle replicated - however, if you are using a dedicated herp room this could be the one main room light for all critters...

What species will be having their lights replaced with heat cords? I prefer lights/heat emitters over heat cords for adults that are housed in enclosures. But heat cords are best for heating tubs. I don't think i would ever use a heat cord as a permanent heat source for an adult python.

You could use ceramic heat emitters - no light...

Seems fine in my opinion (obviously depending on species) but the remainder of the flooring that does not have under floor heating will get very cold. Will it not?

why not infra-red light?
Doesn't bother you at night and is less burning than those ceramic dealies.
I nearly burnt my house down with one of those after some bad pet-store advice. And she really sounded like she knew what she was talking about... |

yeah well i never thought of that.
I was operating a light activated thermostat for a while, but found they were too light-sensitive and weird things were happening to the temperature, and it was picking up light from computer screens etc.
Now i'm just a straight up timer-guy.
