I sent an email a while ago enquiring about some athertons that were for sale, and got this back :
"KJ, Forgot to tell you these ones are a bit fussy with their eating. A bit of experience with snakes would be good. They are only taking live mice and the odd frozen one."
So trying to be a little helpful, I replied with this :
"Just as a word of advice, if you wish to get them eating before they go to new homes, have you tried the brain pricking technique? (just getting a little pin and making a hole so in the head so the scent in much much stronger for them, ive heard this works wonders with fussy eaters), scenting the mice with skinks would be the next thing I try, or freshly killing the mice just before being fed, this way you could gradually wean them onto thawed."
And this is the utterly rude and ungrateful email I just got back a minute ago :
"KJ.I don`t know who told you about that, as far as we are comcerned they should not have an animial. How would you like to have that done to you. goodbye."
Could someone please explain what was wrong with what I said? I was trying to be a little helpful as I saw she wrote they were feeding live, and as far as IM concerned, the techniques I suggested to try are far less cruel than feeding live, but obviously she doesnt think so.

Maybe he/she thought you meant braining the prey while it was still alive? Who knows!
Sounds like they're not worth the concern though :-)

Maybe they interpreted what you said as pricking the snakes head?

they may have thought you meant brain picking them while live. Otherwise, yeah, not sure what they are thinking, probably on the waccy tabbacy and gettin paranoid.

yeah maybe they thought you were talking about pricking a live animal, either way that was uncalled for and they sound like someone who's up on their high horse in which case i wouldn't be buying off them anyway

there are an enormous number of "tools" (as bung-eye put it) out there... disregard it and move on with your much better and less bitter life.
However, she obviously thought you meant you were going to stab a pin into a live mouse's brain so i can kind of almost maybe see where she was coming from - but didn't need to be so rude regardless.

Yeh maybe, but if someone gave me that advice I would have had a better think about it because obviously they wanted to help stop feeding live, why would someone who is concerned about feeding live encourage more cruelty.
But anyway I let her know what I meant

Yep, I think they thought you meant putting a pin in the snakes head. I wouldn't be buying a snake off that so and so.

They probably misunderstood what you were trying to tell them.(or don't care as they are selling them anyway!!)
You sort of can't blame them biting back a little as we all no how many timewasters (not saying you were) and photohunters you get when you are trying to sellsomething!!

when i read it i thought you mean pinning a live mouse. this is what i think they thought too..
its the way its worded.
wither reply explaining what you 'meant' or find someone else. they obviousely misunderstood you, i dont think they should be called tools (that is if they misread you)
theres also 'mouse scent' that you can buy in a bottle, not that a mouse wouldnt smell like a mouse.. lol
