Anyone out there keep them and have a few photos and info they'd like to share? I'm told that most tristis tristis run and hide when you approach their enclosure, do orientalis do the same as a rule?
Also what's your view on the $1500 price tag for that pair? |

They seemed to be quite aprroachable, he got the dad out without too much fuss, he had one that was about 15mths old who was quite happy as well. He said as adults they are all quite handleable and easy to keep, just gotta keep the heat up. Also not being a large monitor they are easy to house.
don't no if this helps. but thought i'd give it a shot anyway |

He does tend to freeze a bit when he sees you but doesn't run unless you're really moving around infront of the cage. But as I said we've only had him 2 days so can't really say much yet lol . I can take some more piccies this arvo if anyone's interested. The $1500 seems a bit steep but I guess it's always a bit more expensive when it's a breeding pair! |

They are more likely to run out when they see you coming. My tristis tritis are shyer except when food is around. In reality, orientalis haven't demanded that price for a few years BUT there is certainly less bred this year than previously. If they are a nice pair with a decent breeding history then they are worth it otherwise I suppose $1200 for an adult pair is more reasonable (if you can find them). |

I don't mind saying I paid $500 for the breeding pair of t.tristis and $250 for the adult orientalis. Those prices were cheap and they do normally command a higher price especially for breeding pairs. My tristis are pretty good, the big male is quite calm and ca be handled reasonably easily, the female is pretty timid but both take pinkies out of my hand. The male orientalis is completely mad and launches himself at anything resembling food.

They are fantastic monitors but care needs to be taken in securing logs and rocks. Also there isn't much else out there that is faster than these guys (as people have already said) so generally sliding glass enclosures are a no no. The two I keep have pretty different personalities, one doesn't really mind me being around and the other hides all the time and hates me.
By the way, if anyone has any northern WA animals or highly coloured black headed pairs for sale please contact me |

As GeckoDan stated, if they were proven breeders with good results, then maybe you might pay that price. If not, and they are still available, make them an offer. They are great monitors to keep. |

I didn't get around to talking to him but apparently he had a permit to wild catch some on a kimberley station to sell on and establish in captivity before the toads get there and kill them all .
Did anyone out there get any glauerti? |

The person was Gavin Bedford from Darwin. He has collected a few so far and last I heard they had allready bred from 1 pair. I believe it will be a while yet till they have enough of a base stock to start selling to the public.
Gavin did tell me however the approx price he will probably be asking for them. $5000 a pair. Ouch. |
