Using tod for mites

Okay this might sound like a stupid question but better to ask!!!
Whan using top of descent mite spray is it okay to spray directly into the enclosure with the snakes still in it or take them out and spray them and the enclosure seperately?
I tried old threads but to no avail just says to use the stuff but not how!!
Also has anyone tried the vegetable oil or suregaurd mini strips?
I tried Flemings,Franklins, woolworths,IGA.Bunnings,Golo and could find these. If you use them where do you get them?
Thanks!!

You can spray with them either in or out of the enclosure. I prefer to take them out and spray them in a serpate tub so I can hit the cage with a higher dose. Just remember to take the water bowl out either way.

Thanks you and spray every couple of days right?
Is there any indicator that they are gone beside the snake no longer sitting in the water bowl?

Spray, then redo in 3 days, I did it a third time just to be safe. I found the easiest way to find them was under their ventral scales, depends how placid your snake is to let you have a good look. Waterbowl is also a good way.
Just because you can't find any doesn't mean there all gone so remain vigilant.

Okay thanks some very good advice!!
You sprayed everything on the snakes but their head?I read not to spray the head?
If you didn't spray the head was it still okay? i think they get them under their eyes too?

I didnt spray the snakes directly, placed them in a large tub (click clack type container) with the lid on, and sprayed that with the snakes in it for about 2-4 seconds. Left them for an hour, then sprayed them again lightly as there were still a few mites kicking and left for another hour. Don't forget to keep an eye on the snakes during this period.

Not a problem mate, make sure you keep a close eye on any other snakes you own, as they can spread and lay low for quite some time.

I thought so too...I was advised to spray once (water bowl removed) and spray again in 2 weeks. No point spraying again in 3 days if the eggs haven't hatched yet!

I have them in three snakes (all in the same room, luckily the others aren't !!!) and it started in one and i thought i had it all under control using Reptile science mite spray for 2 weeks but alas, they are still with us,and spread, hence the switch to tod!!!

The sureguard mini strips were effective when they contained Dichlorvos, which was the active ingredient. Dichlorvos can cause cancer in herps and humans so it was banned. The active ingredient in the mini strips is now Camphor, which i dont think has an effect on mites (i'm not 100% sure though).

Just spray inside the enclosure with the snake still inside, but remove the bowl. Do this at night as mites are nocturnal and this way you'll get all the mites that are hiding around the snakes eyes etc, which are usually hiding away during the day. Any mites hiding in the substrate or in cage furniture will also get hit so dont bother soaking hollows, branches etc. I would spray once a week for 3 weeks.

If you are using a paper substrate ,you'll see dead mites on the paper easily.

Yes thats true. Also 24 hour heating will make eggs hatch a lot quicker than just heating during the day.
