i know this is not a neccessity but i want to know if it would help the snakes in anyway.
...for example i have a 2.2m water python who will eat anything, at the moment she only eats rabbits and seems fine with that
but if i was to give her a pigeon, chicken or two jumbo rats every 3rd or 4th feed do u guys think this would make an improvement in health/diet
cheers

I can't see any real reason it would be a benefit? If a varied diet was a benefit, I would think that everyone would be doing it, but to tell the truth I have no clue. Interesting question though. What's your big girls' temperament like?

I'm sure it wouldn't do any harm. Why not give it a try? Good experiment.
Only thing I could think of is if she didn't take the other food items, not knowing what they were, or if she did but didn't wanna go back to rabbits?
How big are the rabbits your feeding her? Any feeding-time pictures?

It won't be that much of a difference. However it certainly can't hurt to vary food items. Alot of snakes live long healthy lives just eating rats. It's usually a size thing that makes people start using rabbits.

yeh rabbits are either almost full grown females or medium males.
i also thought a fish would be good every now and again for my smaller snakes to help with shedding and also the oils cant be bad for thier skin and pigment.

You will find that only a few species will eat fish.

It certainly won't hurt, it can be dangerous too, depending on what sort of fish it is, if it has any spiny fins I would certainly not risk it.

it wouldnt improve health any more than it is on rabbits. the water wont really care what it gets fed, but there is no probs if you want. i just get whats in at the time.

What species of snake and fish would you be able to feed to your pythons?

I feed my BHP's Rats, Chickens, Chicken necks, Chicken wings, Chicken thighs, Rabbits, Guinea pigs (when at a good price), Japanese quails etc etc.
Personally I think I get best results from Jap Quails. I beleive the oils they contain make the snakes very shiny. They shed and grow at a constant rate on a moderate amount of them. I have great success in preparing breeding animals and great breeding success with them.
I'm not sure if this is just in my head, but I've heard the same from others who use them.
