There are venomoids in the UK, but they have been imported from the US.
they aren't popular there, one because of the moral issue, but two because they are very expensive due to the cost of having the procedure carried out by US vets.
They will also obviously still need to be licenced as Venomous, and will of course still produce venomous offspring, there was also occasions when the venom glands weren't removed properly, and one had grown back to the point where it produced venom again, I understand it was only found out when the American owner of the snake got bitten after showing off to his mates how he could free handle his cobra!
Obviously the sort of people that buy them think it would be nice to free handle them and show off! What other reason would you want to buy one for.
I disagree with the whole Venomoid culture and hope it gets banned worldwide!
Glad Australia has more sense in these matters.

i saw the snake wranglers episode. they were de-fanged and died soon after from infection, they sed the conditions they are kept in (dusty boxes) rapidly increase infection, but also that it didnt really matter where they were kept as long as the fangs has been tampered with they were pretty much dead already
wen u consider a broken fang can be the death of a wild snake that makes sense
cheers, jono

There are vets here in Australia who will do it.
I don't condone it either and fortunately it is not a common practise.

My F.I.L was recently telling me about a snake hatchling he was given by mate years ago [early 60's]. he put it ina matchbox and took it to work to ask a know herper what it was. Turned out to be a king brown. The guy that gave it to my F.I.l had been playing with the mother [freehandling] showing it off, leting kids play with it etc. turned out the guy had de-fanged it. dont like to think how, perhaps pulled or broke them of with pliers? cruel practice.
dont know what happened when the snake grew themback though. So this has been going on with back yard herpers for a long time apparently, so its likely its still happens. sad.
