but were i put my vent were on the cool side i put one half way up the encloser and on the hot end up higher
the one i am building is made out of wood and i put my vent on the roof on the warm said eand kool side about half way up the tank

|  | Subscriber | Join Date: Jan-08 Location: great south east Gender:  | | | | Put one up high and one down low to allow for natural convetion this will allow for natural air flow i put both at the cool end. this way you don't force the hot air out at a faster rate (saving money on power). the cooler end at the lower vent will have cool fresh air coming in and the hot end will have to fill with hot air before any heat goes out at the cool end. I am in South East Qld so it gets quit cool here. Hope yhis helps. |

|  | Regular Member | Join Date: Jun-07 Location: Newcastle Age/Gender: 24  | | | | In my experience so far if I position my vents one down low and one up high it will cause a chimney type effect hot air will escape and cool air will enter. Using this method more heat and enery will need to be generated to keep the temperatures up to an appropriate level causing electricity bills to be noticebly higher when using multiple enclosures. Additionally I noted with this method it is almost impossible (in my area) to maintain an appropriate humidity level for most species. Cage surfaces did not hold heat very well especially when the enclosure is positioned on a cool surface. To eliminate this problem, on the advice of pro-products, I used adjustable ventilation and positioned them half way up the back piece. The vents are closed most the year, open to cool adults for breeding. I also needed to insulate the floor and celling of my enclosures to stop cool temperatures rising through the floor lowering the temps of my cage surfaces. |  |
