Vet Charges

Well my firt trip to the vets yesterday and i was told by a few people that vets don't or are not allowed to charge a consultation fee for native animals Not that i mind paying .

I was very happy with (Name withheld for now ) who i went to see and he was very helpful.

But i pose this question. Should i have had to pay the conseltation fee or just for the medication i recived for the snake?.

i would pay if you are happy with the service. my vets only charge for the meds but some might be diferent. no point peeing off the vets if your happy with the job they have done.. they have to put food on the table to

MM,
What is the circumstances?
If the animal was a wild native animal then you should of rung Wires or Sydney Wildlife and they would of advised you which Vets will undertake treatment of native animals for free.
I was under the impression that most will give treatment for free.

What is the animal? Who was the Vet? PM me if you like.

Neil

If it is your pet then you have an obligation to pay for the vet's services.
If it is a rescued animal then you should have incurred no fee and you should have left it with the vet for placement with a registered carer.

MM,
That's different, if it is a pet then you will always be charged for a consultation.
Whoever told you otherwise has been misinformed.
It's no different than owning a native pet parrot or kangaroo.

Cheers Neil

Native rescues that will be rehabilitated and released, or put down, are not charged for.

But don't try getting out of the charges by taking your pet carpet python in and claiming it is a native for rehab, as they can take it off you to be handed over to a wildlife carer.
