Vet Visit

Hi all. Not a happy thread at all but one that I thought I would write to help me.

I just got back from Peter Cameron's practice with Ollie our male Diamond Python.

For those of you who know Ollie and his adventures have a laugh for him. For those of you who don't know, well let's just say he is probably the only snake to have been stolen by low-lifes, had a couple of hours on the lock-up (yes - Police cells) only to be returned safely back home.

I, no we have a few days left with Ollie before he heads back to the Vet. He has a tumour in his mouth and he also looks like having a fair sized tumour in his chest area. He has gone down hill fast in the last week. He has neurological problems and has his head tilited to one side. Very little body movement at all. He hardly moved when Peter was pressing on the tumour inside him.

An operation would cost at least $600-$700 with no guarantee at all. Peter does not like his chances of survival and gave him some anti-biotics and told me to take him home and have a few days to decide.

As far as Vets go and I have known plenty in my life time (although Peter is the first Reptile Vet) I believe he is as honest as they come and when I asked Peter for his honest answer - well I think you all know what it was.

Ollie is my favourite and also the kids favourite as he has the best personality, he is an awesome handler. Way too young for this sort of crap to happen.

Anyway I'm going to go and sit out in the shed, have a few whiskeys and watch Ollie.

I thought I was a bit tougher than this but I'll probably shed a few tears as well.

Our thoughts are with your shamous!! Ollie is a treasured friend and I hope the kids can understand the reasons behind you having to make sure a terrible decision.

Least he is going to a better place with no pain.

Best wishes and I am so sorry for your loss.

Mel

I would be shedding a tear or two as well.

G'day mate
I know you wouldnt want to here this but i would just put the animal down as i have been in position on a couple of occasions and any animal with tumors that i have come across have never come good even after removal they go off feed and tumors come back in other places etc and you end up losing them anyway.
Save your money and just let her/him go.
Sorry mate

I think I already came to the worst case scenario conclsuion in the vets. I just could'nt leave him there. Might have to get the wife or my dad to take him for me.

and thanks everyone for your thoughts. Hug accepted Liz.

and da donkey I am raising my glass, glass, glass, glass, glass
