i noticed today my female water python has a bit of a cut right on the top of her head, straight between her eyes!
i was going to gently swab it with either betadine or iodine just clean it up, but am wary of damaging her eyes. does anyone have any other ideas or is it just a case of proceeding extremely carefully?

Depending on the severity, it's probably not too big a deal. Snakes usually heal these things really well. It it's a significant cut, she'll go through a rapid slough cycle and at the end should be looking fine. If you post a pic of the injury someone here will be able to tell you more, but I think a trip to the vet is probably a waste of time, money and an unnecessary stress to the animal. The vet is unlikely to do any more than swap with antiseptic anyway, which you can do yourself if necessary.

no, it is not a really bad cut, but i thought it was worth checking anyway, will give it a gentle swab of antiseptic and see how she goes!
thanks for your help.

Her eyes will be fine - they are covered by an eye shield type thing, it's pretty tough due to not having eye lids. That said, don't get wiping it over her eyes...
