hey guys. i found it very weird today that one of my hatchlings ate its prey backwards (bottom end 1st). It also didnt strike or contrict its prey, just humbly swallowed it. Is this normal ?

Usally means a food size increase is required if there taking them backwards with ease.....
How old is it???

i doubt it needs an increase. it was it 3rd feeding. wasnt easily consumed though and the buldge in the stomach was a decent size.

I didn't think it was common but then jake did it a couple of feeds ago and he is 1 year old and never done it before. It turns out that it is common. I just increased Jakes food size a bit. Being a hatchling it might have just been really eager for a feed especially since it didn't constrict. I wouldn't worry about it.

my 2 year old carpet did it last week. and she has never done it before. i am not worried, i just think sometimes they are in a hurry to eat.

Our snakes do it all the time. Reminds me, when I was a kid my dad told me to eat the food I didnt like first of my plate at dinner time, and save the yummy bits 'till last, maybe the snake wants to get the yukky end done first so it doesn't have a yukky taste in it's mouth. LOL
