Hello all,
was just feeding my water pythons.....one striked and constricted, the other slowly came out of her hide came right up to the rat sniffed it up and down 3 times then just opened her mouth place (i wouldn't say bite) on the rats head, pulled the rat down a bit......then slowly placed one coil around it.......
is she just being lazy?
i have another python that eats like a pac man (thus the name pac-man) but i have never seen this before.
any ideas?

mine seem to change with the season, especially my diamond jules. in winter time he's nowhere near as interested in feeding even tho we havent cooled him yet and a lot of the time he just wont strike! put it down on a log tho and he'll just go up to it and slowly start eating...he sorta coils it but only to help him get it down. one time i held it by the shoulders with its face in his and he started eating it while i was holding it lol. i figured it was a seasonal thing but it could well be laziness |

Mine do that too. They just slowy come up, grab the head and start eating with a single coil. Think it's all cool.

changes from snake to snake my female olive wont constrict unless there is tention when she takes the rat (i keep hold of it for afew secs after the strike) other then that she will just slowly walk her jaws over it unless she has shitloads of trouble handling the prey then she chucks a coil or two over it
the male on the otherhand well you cant see his prey cuzz he totaly entwines he seems to have trouble putting his jaw back in sometimes to and he goes for a big fat drink after most meals whereas iv only seen the female olive drink once
my two darwin carpets they both constrict and eat as per norm

i have 5 pythons and they all hit like mac trucks. i love it!!! I dont use the tongs either as they are all very accurate (thank Gord). My diamond used to be a sniffer but now is very aggressive at his feed. It wouldnt worry me too much how they fed as long as they did | | |
